A rivalry of the foldable smartphones is about to begin. Smartphones are going to take over the world of phones in the coming years. Many big names like Apple, Huawei, LG, Motorola and others are already filing the patent and striving to achieve superiority and lead over their opponents. Samsung Galaxy X is currently is perhaps leading the way.
Here we are enlisting five most awaited and exciting foldable smartphones that are in the news nowadays.
1.SAMSUNG GALAXY X
Among Samsung foldable smartphones, Samsung Galaxy X is the most expected and talked about the phone with a reported release date in 2019. What adds to the charm of this foldable smartphone is its feature of three screens instead of two, making it extra attractive. This feature will enable the transition of this device from a phone to tablet.
According to reports the front of Galaxy X consists of two screens each measuring 3.5 inches which transform into a 7 inches tablet when folded. The back of the smartphone also has a single screen measuring 3.5 inches; this allows it to be viewed even in folded form.
Talking about the release of date of Samsung Galaxy X, it is said that it will be showcased in the months following MWC, or the same event as the Galaxy S10 being held in February 2019.
2. MOTOROLA RAZR
As reported through a source, it is evident that Motorola is working on a folding smartphone with the possibility of carrying the iconic Motorola Razr branding. While talking to TechRadar, Yang Yuanqing, CEO of Lenovo and owner of Motorola brand said that:
With the new technology, particularly foldable screens, I think you will see more and more innovation on our smartphone design. So hopefully what you just described ( the Motorola Razr brand ) will be developed or realized very soon
Following this, a patent for a two-screen foldable smartphone was also filed by Motorola. Patent details that when flipped out foldable phone can be used as a tablet. Other features include two cameras, top, bottom and middle hinges. Also, the phone can be propped up into a tent-like display mode which sounds very astounding.
3.LG FOLDING SMARTPHONE
LG is currently a leader in the world of foldable and rolling displays. This is quite evident from the company work example. Beside LG other companies like Huawei are also utilising their screens in foldable devices. So it is not surprising that early in this year a patent for a flexible display that can be folded in half was filed by LG. Two models of the phone were depicted, in first one information and notification like time displayed on the front of the phone when folded in and a camera system embedded in the backplate. A second model has a transparent section on the right-hand side of the front that could be used for displaying time and other notifications. In both the models, there are two screens, unlike Samsung Galaxy X’s three screens.
4. APPLE FOLDABLE iPhone
Apple is the biggest competitor of Samsung working on foldable smartphones and hardware may be very realistic. Last year in November a patent was filed by Apple for,
electronic devices with flexible displays
Unlike other patents no further details in form of images or other forms are available. However keeping in view Apple’s history and its innovation, it wouldn’t be unbelievable if a foldable iPhone or iPad shows up.
5. HUAWEI FOLDING PHONE
In last comes the Huawei under discussion in terms of foldable smartphones. In last October it was confirmed by CEO of Huawei Richard Yu that the company is working on a flexible smartphone. It was affirmed when a patent was filed in March this year. The patent was about the emergence of a foldable Huawei phone. The patent refers device as “ foldable smartphone” but it is eminent from the patent that Huawei foldable smartphone is like a book in appearance that transforms into a tablet when opened. Two screens of the folder are connected through a hinge in model 2. Producing a successful foldable smartphone with a hinge is the key challenge for makers. Hinge must be very compact and as invisible as possible to make the phone more attractive and practical.
The overall idea of having a foldable smartphone with possible transformation in tablet form with high power is very exciting. We are looking forward to the delivery of such incredible products by Samsung, Apple, Huawei, Motorola and LG.
